Hood River Middle School
Smart is something you become…not something you are
Our mission is to provide a quality education that allows each child to achieve academic success within a safe, disciplined, and respectful environment. Students work toward becoming life-long learners: competent, productive citizens, contributing to their diverse community. We recognize that to help our students maximize their potential, we must:
• Provide a well trained staff and utilize current and effective instructional methods and strategies
• Nurture a working partnership with parents and community
• Promote a coherent, standards based curriculum, which addresses the maturational and social-emotional needs of students, as well as the cultural diversity of students in our school.
Dear Parents and Community Members,
HRMS students showed excellent academic growth in 2013-2014, and we continue to shine in pushing students to exceed the state benchmarks. This is a result of the hard work of our students, staff, and community. Although we are very proud, we must continue to increase our students’ readiness for high levels of coursework in mathematics and literacy. We’ll do this by focusing on the new Common Core State Standards through teacher collaboration, increasing academic instructional time, and implementing a relevant system of intervention and enrichment courses. You can help by monitoring your child’s schoolwork, ensuring they are reading at least 30 minutes per day, attending open house and parent teacher conferences, and volunteering. Family involvement is important to your child’s school success. We look forward to partnering with you over the next school year. HRMS is committed to working with all students to reach their highest potential.
