Budget Committee Summary
By law, the budget committee is charged with decision making concerning financial priorities.
The budget committee will have the responsibility for reviewing the financial program of the district, reviewing the proposed district budget as presented by the superintendent and recommending an annual district budget in keeping with the provisions of applicable state law.
The budget committee shall consist of seven members appointed by the board plus the elected board members. Each member of the board shall nominate a candidate from their zone for appointment to the budget committee. The appointive member must not be an officer, agent or employee of the district. No budget committee member may receive any type of compensation from the district. The board shall act on each appointment.
Each budget committee member shall be appointed for a term of three years except where an appointment is made to complete the term of a member leaving the committee. The terms shall be staggered so that one-third or approximately one-third of the terms of the appointed members expire each year.
