1. Email, Google Drive, and Passwords
Organize your email accounts. You will want to use a personal, professional email for all college applications and for financial aid documents.
Transfer any important documents from your HRCSD Google Drive to a personal Google Drive account.
Plan to store all college admissions passwords in a Google doc account as well as in the "notes" section of your phone. Please share your passwords with your parents. Passwords to have on file at this time: SchooLinks username and password, Oregon CIS username and password, FSA ID/FAFSA username and password. Individual college applications username and password.
You will need to know your social security number in order to complete college applications and federal financial aid.
2. Update your Oregon CIS Activities Chart or Oregon Goes to College Activities Chart
Your Oregon CIS Activities Chart will be used when you apply for Elks Student of the Month, OSAC Scholarships, Hood River County Local Scholarships. This document holds all of your work experience, community service, athletics, activities since 9th grade. Please follow the log-in directions and instructions on how to update your Oregon CIS Activities Chart. Login directions are under "Log In" and a video tutorial can be found under "College Counseling" both on the HRVHS website.
3. Add colleges to your SchooLinks Account
SchooLinks is the platform that HRVHS uses to send transcripts, the school profile, letters of recommendation, and any required secondary reports to all colleges.
4. Determine if your colleges use the Common Application or Coalition Application
5. Get Ready for Federal Financial Aid
If you plan to apply for financial aid, student and parent(s) together must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Class of 2023 can complete the FAFSA on or after October 1, 2022. DO NOT COMPLETE the FAFSA before that time. Students that are applying for financial aid for the 2023-2024 school year. In order to sign in, both student and parent(s) must have a FSAID. An FSA ID is a username and password that gives you access to Federal Student Aid’s online systems and can serve as your legal signature.
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on or after October 1, 2022. Many colleges have priority deadlines for scholarships and require that the FAFSA be submitted before then. Please check the financial aid page of colleges you are applying to to determine that date. For instance, the University of Oregon's priority filing date is March 1, 2023.
