• Speech to Text (Dictation) enables students to speak their thoughts. This is especially important while they are developing their typing skills and can bridge the gap until they achieve automaticity with their typing. Dictation is built into the iPad.

    To Enable:

    1. Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Enable Dictation

    To Use:

    1. While in a text box, double-click the "Ctrl" button or tap the microphone button on the virtual keypad.
    2. Use the 4-Step strategy outlined in the Tips for using Speech to Text (Dictation) guide.

    To disable:

    1. Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Enable Dictation

    Troubleshooting

    1. Dictation does not work very well with Google Docs in Safari. Students will have more success using it with the Google Doc App.
