Assistive Technology (AT) addresses the specific needs of a student with disabilities and gives them better access to learning and performing daily tasks. AT most likely changes over time as the student's needs evolve. AT can function in one of three ways:

• Augment or support:  Reading example - a student can click on the digital text to hear a word that he cannot decode
  
• Bypass: Reading example – A blind student can listen to the text.
  
• Compensate: Reading example – A student uses text to speech to listen and see the highlighted words as they are spoken. This helps improve decoding and content comprehension.

HRCSD all of our students access to iPad technology which has built-in accessibility features. In addition to the iPads, students may have access to certain apps to support their specific needs.

HRCSD also works with Columbia Regional Inclusive Services to provide students with equipment specific to their disability.
