• ExCEL Expectations

    Dear families of ExCEL Students,

We are pleased to begin the 2023- 2024 program with our students. Students will receive extra support in reading, writing, math, and academic subjects. They will also experience a wide variety of enrichment programs, such as drama, music, and art.

In an effort to create a program that provides a quality experience for all students, we want to communicate our plan for student behavior expectations. We expect all students to be:

    • Respectful
    • Responsible
    • Safe
    • Kind

These characteristics are ones we teach and support throughout the regular school day as well as at ExCEL. When students are not able to demonstrate these characteristics, we will follow the procedure below.

    Daily System:

    • Step 1: If a student displays unexpected behavior, give a reminder of an expectation, model the expectation, give them the opportunity to practice the            expectation, give them the opportunity to practice the expectation.
    • Step 2: If students continue to display the same unexpected behavior, problem solve with the student. Ask what is getting in the way of them being successful? How can we help?
      • Step 2b: Offer to have parents help solve problems (Site Coordinator will call parents and work together for a solution)
      • Step 2c: Contact SSS for additional support and create an individual plan
      • Step 2d: Involve the principal-may result in temporary or permanent removal from the program if safety is a concern.

We hope these guidelines will provide the safest and best learning or permanent removal from the program if safety is a concern.

    Sincerely,

    Pauline Koll
