I am not the parent of the student I am registering. Can I enroll the student?
Only a parent or legal guardian with proper documentation can automatically enroll a student in school. If you are helping a parent or guardian register, they need to be present and able to sign registration forms in order for the student to enroll. If the parent or guardian is not regularly present in the student’s life and you are acting as a supervising adult, please contact Meghan West at the HRCSD administrative office for more information about the supervision agreement process (meghan.west@hoodriver.k12.or.us).
-
Can I keep my student in the same grade next year?
Initial enrollment is based on the student’s grade history (i.e., if they were a third grade student last year, they will enroll as a fourth grade student this year). Once the student is enrolled you can work with school administrators and staff to determine if repeating a grade (called retention) is in the student’s best interest.

I recently moved and cannot provide two (2) pieces of proof of address. Can I still enroll my student in the new neighborhood school?
If you cannot provide proof of residency due to a recent move or change in family situation, a temporary Declaration of Residency may be issued allowing a student to attend school for 10 school days while you obtain the necessary documents. If you cannot provide proof because you do not currently have fixed, regular, or adequate housing, you need to contact Erica Magana (erica.magana@hoodriver.k12.or.us).

Can my student skip kindergarten?
Kindergarten is not required in Oregon. If you choose to keep your student out of school until they are six (6), they may enroll directly into 1st grade. If you feel your five (5) year old is advanced enough to skip kindergarten and enroll in 1st grade, you would still need to enroll them in kindergarten and then work with your school administrators.
-
Can I enroll my student in kindergarten if they turn five (5) after September 1?
HRCSD does not allow early entry to school.
-
How old does my student need to be to enroll in kindergarten?
To start kindergarten, your student must be five (5) years old on or before September 1. If your student is six (6) and has not previously attended kindergarten, work with school staff to determine if they should enroll as a kindergarten student or a 1st grade student.
-
Do I have to enroll my student every year?
As long as your student is active, your student’s information will automatically roll over to the next grade. You will have to review this information and submit it for returning enrollment. Every year, just before school starts, you will be sent a Verification Form to confirm your student’s information and sign up for bus transportation.
-
I want to enroll my student during the summer, but the school is closed. What are my options?
Online Enrollment is available year round and will place your student’s registration in a queue for review by school staff when they return from summer break, which is a few weeks before school starts. School district staff are available to help with enrollment throughout the summer.
-
Is there a deadline to enroll my student in school?
HRCSD encourages new kindergarten families to enroll their students by June 1 for the following school year. This way, school staff will be ready for your students and keep you informed of any school activities. Other students entering HRCSD should enroll as soon as possible. HRCSD has no deadline to enroll.
