Volunteer for Hood River County School District
Hood River County School District (HRCSD) appreciates the community volunteers who generously dedicate their time to serving in school and its students. To apply to volunteer, please complete the following Google Form (English and Spanish versions linked below).

HRCSD welcomes parents and community members to volunteer in the school district. A strong volunteer program is vital to the success of our excellent schools. HRCSD staff understands that volunteers are important to the success of our students.
HRCSD wants you to know that your volunteer work is valued for the duties you perform and also for the behavior you model for students. Sharing your time and energy shows students that you value education. Your words, actions, and attitudes show positive ways of working with others.

Do volunteers have to be vaccinated against COVID-19?
No, but this area is subject to change if the State of Oregon places another COVID-19 vaccination mandate on school volunteers. -
How often are volunteer backgrounds re-checked?
Volunteers need to submit to a nationwide criminal records check every three years.

How do I find out if the results of my criminal history check will allow me to volunteer?
About one week after you apply, you can check with the school secretary as to the status of your application. Each person who applies to volunteer will get a letter from the school district. The letter will state if they are approved to volunteer or not.

Does HRCSD check immigration status for volunteers?
No.

When can someone who has applied to volunteer start?
A person can start after completing a volunteer application, including a criminal history verification, and receiving approval from the Superintendent’s Office. Background checks can take a number of days to process. HRCSD encourages applicants to submit their form at least one week before the date they want to begin volunteering.

What type of criminal background information would prevent a volunteer from working in the schools?
Sex-related crimes, crimes or violations involving violence or a threat of violence. This includes harassment; restraining or stalking orders; criminal activity involving drugs, alcohol, or weapons; and crimes or violations involving theft. Any of these will prevent a person from volunteering in our schools.
There may be some cases where a person with a criminal conviction on their record could be allowed to volunteer. If a certain number of years have passed since the conviction. The Human Resources Director will review all background checks and decide whether or not a person will be allowed to volunteer in HRCSD.

Who has to fill out the volunteer criminal background form?
HRCSD policy states that anyone who has direct, unsupervised contact with students has to have a nationwide criminal records check and be approved before beginning their volunteer service.
