A big thanks to the Westside PTO and parent, Nicole Wymore, for coordinating this year’s Char Affair Auction that took place on November 2nd. As in years past, this was an amazing event, with so many parents and community members coming together to support an event that directly benefits Westside students. The money raised is used to pay for artists in residence programs for all students at Westside, kindergarten through fifth grade. Please make sure to take a look at the sponsor list in this newsletter who so graciously supported this event and our school.
Now that we’re two months into the school year, we’d like to see everyone into the routine of having their child(ren) in the school doors when the first bell rings (7:35 a.m. Tuesday through Friday’s and 8:35 a.m. on Mondays). This allows enough time for students to unpack their belongings and settle in before the tardy bell rings at 7:40 a.m. Having students attending school on a consistent basis makes a tremendous difference, for it means students are in school learning and teachers are able to focus on the students, instead of catching them up with instruction they missed.
Parents should have received a conference schedule by now for November 13th or 15th, designating a time your child’s teacher would like to meet with you. Report cards will be given to students on November 13th at the end of the day to take home. I encourage all of our parents to attend conferences. These meetings are opportunities for the teachers to share progress being made and for parents to ask questions, developing that important parent/teacher relationship that is vital for student success.
Thank you for your continued support!
