• Correspondence Course Information

PRIOR to enrolling in any type of correspondence course your counselor must approve the course and the program for HRVHS credit.  The attached contract must be completed and on file with your counselor and data processing before credit is awarded.

Hood River Valley High School offers its students a wide variety of classes for educational benefit and enhancement.  In addition, students may exercise the option of enrolling correspondence course work.  It is the policy of HRVHS to allow students the opportunity to transfer a maximum of four (4) outside high school credits obtained through correspondence courses.

Your counselor can present the general correspondence course information.  Below are links for three programs with whom HRVHS has working relationships.  A contract that has been signed by the student, parent AND counselor is necessary prior to signing up for any correspondence course.  Failure to complete this vital first step may result in HRVHS not recognizing the course for credit.

You can download the form here or get a copy from your counselor.

    Student/parent responsibilities:

    • Signed and approved correspondence course contract.  See above for more information.

    • Cost of the courses.  Course costs may range from $45.00 - $500.00 (or more, depending on the type of course chosen).

    • Direct correspondence with the program regarding student progress, arrangement for tests and test proctors (if needed) and any other inquiry regarding the student’s progress.

    • Meeting deadlines for graduation if the course is a required course for graduation.*  The deadline for coursework completion is MAY 15 of the student’s graduation year.  If the student is on an approved ONE semester early graduation plan the due date for completed coursework is January 15 of the graduation year.   Completing work after these deadlines will result in the student not being able to participate in graduation ceremonies.  He/she will receive his/her diploma once the final grade is recorded on the official transcript.

*Most correspondence courses require a final which cannot be ordered until all coursework is complete.  This final may take a week or more to reach the proctor.  All work, including the final, must be completed by the deadline of May 15th (or January 15th if you are an early grad)
