District Recognizes Transportation Staff
02-23-17 - The Hood River County School District transportation department staff is recognized for their important contributions to student learning. The District bus drivers are often the first and last person that our students encounter on a daily basis, and our professional drivers take this responsibility very seriously.
Their driving skills have certainly been tested this winter as the District has had 10 school closure days, 6 weather-related school delays, and one early release. The drivers have had to put in extra time to ensure that the buses were chained and ready to travel safely in these conditions. Operations Director Don Benefield praised the staff when he said, "The drivers have gone above and beyond to operate on days that we might not have normally had school had this been a typical winter." They are a dedicated team!
The transportation department is comprised of 37 staff members. There are more staff members in this department than we have at several elementary schools. They are responsible for transporting our students to and from school daily, drive routes for after school activities and athletics, and field trips. The school board praised the efforts of the entire transportation team and their contribution to the success of Hood River County School District students.
