Length of Course: Semester
Prerequisites: Students must have an interest in teaching, excellent attendance, and provide own transportation to their assigned school site
Cadet Teaching provides students with insights into a career in education through firsthand experience in an elementary or middle school classroom. Students spend the first several class periods in the SUMMIT Career Center researching careers of interest, fine tuning their skills in resume/letter writing, and designing learning objectives. During the placement, cadet teachers work with a supervising teacher and his/her students in the classroom and prepare at least one lesson to teach for their final project. Students are evaluated on the quality of their notebook, including a daily journal, hours of participation as well as performance in classroom, lesson plan, and career-related learning standards. Please note that students will not be placed in the classrooms of family members.
