Good evening Hood River County School District Parents and Guardians,
This is Superintendent, Rich Polkinghorn. I am calling this evening to provide an update to families on our reopening plans for fall. On July 28, the district announced that school will start with Comprehensive Distance Learning.
After that announcement, we fielded many questions about what school will look and feel like for students. As a result, we developed a “Frequently Asked Questions” document. This document can be found on the school district website. It is the best place to find the most current and accurate information about school reopening plans.
A recent update to the FAQ document is draft daily schedules for the different school levels. The daily schedules will provide families a sense of how a student’s day of school will be structured.
Next, we have heard from many families that a primary concern is childcare. The school district is expecting to receive guidance from the Oregon Department of Education, Early Learning Division, on Friday, August 14. This guidance will provide us with information related to childcare and pre-school options for the fall. We expect to be able to provide an update on childcare and pre-school options to district families early next week.
Finally, a reminder that the deadline for choosing to attend Hood River Options Academy is this Friday, August 14. Please visit the district website for enrollment information for Hood River Options Academy. The FAQ document compares and contrasts the Hood River Options Academy and Comprehensive Distance Learning, which may help you determine the best program for your family. For Comprehensive Distance Learning there is no sign up required.
Please continue to visit our website for the most current and accurate information.
Thank you, and have a great evening.
Rich Polkinghorn, Superintendent
