Assessment

Assessments inform students, teachers, and parents about how well a student is progressing toward understanding of essential knowledge and skills. In addition, data from these assessments help educators improve classroom instruction for students, identify students who would benefit from additional or different learning opportunities, pinpoint areas of focus for school and district improvement efforts, and monitor progress toward the school district's goal of excellence for every student, every day.

District Common Assessments

In addition to classroom assessments, our students engage in a variety of common assessment opportunities throughout the year, the District Assessment Calendar communicates which assessments are administered and the time frame.

This calendar includes the Oregon State Assessment of Skills or OSAS, which is administered at the end of the year to measure their mastery of statewide grade level standards.

Dyslexia

In July of 2015, Senate Bill 612 was passed by the Oregon Legislature. SB 612 required the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to designate a Dyslexia Specialist to provide school districts with support and resources to assist students with dyslexia and their families. Each year, the school district provides an assessment to screen for dyslexia, which is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. Our screener, Dibels, takes place in the fall and is ongoing throughout the year to monitor students' progress in Reading.
