Nutrition Services

Our mission is to ensure every child is nourished and ready to excel in their learning journey. By offering high-quality, balanced meals centered around whole foods, we not only support their well-being and learning but also help students understand how food fuels their bodies and minds.

  • High Quality Meals: Our meals are rich in whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and dairy products, providing essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. We use fresh, high-quality ingredients and avoid artificial colors, sweeteners, and other unnecessary additives to ensure nutritious and delicious meals. We aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills to make informed food choices.
  • Sustainable Practices: We actively support our local food system, community, and environment by consciously sourcing ingredients from local farms and businesses, which helps reduce our environmental impact and supports the local economy.
  • Ongoing Menu Improvements: We use school meals as a tool to create an inclusive environment where students feel connected to their food and community. We encourage students to take an active role in their food experiences and believe that giving students a voice in their food choices fosters a sense of ownership and confidence in their eating habits.
  • Accessible School Meals: In the 2023-2024 school year Hood River County School District implemented the Community Eligibility Provision district-wide. All students receive one complete breakfast and one complete lunch each school day at no cost.
