Attendance

Regular school attendance is important for students as it fosters consistent learning, helps build a strong academic foundation, and cultivates good habits for future success. Families should prioritize daily attendance to support their student's educational and personal development.

Report a Student Absence

Please notify your student’s school office within 24 hours if your student will be absent. You can report an absence in one of three ways:

  1. ParentVUE App (fastest): Log into ParentVUE, select Report Absence, choose your timeframe and reason category, and add a brief note.

  2. ParentSquare: Send a direct message to your school’s attendance office.

  3. Phone Call: Call your school’s main office directly.

Excused Absence Guidelines (ORS 339.065)

Under Oregon law (ORS 339.065), school staff determine whether an absence is excused based on state guidelines. When reporting in ParentVUE, select the category that best fits:

  • Illness: Student illness, injury, mental or behavioral health days, or medical/dental appointments.

  • Family Emerg: Urgent family matters or severe family illness/loss.

  • Religious: Religious observances or cultural traditions.

  • Other (add note): Select this option for non-medical reasons, family travel, or personal events. Please include a brief explanation in the Note field. Pre-arranged absences or planned trips will be reviewed by the principal to determine if the reason meets state criteria for an excused absence and whether satisfactory academic arrangements have been made in advance (ORS 339.065).

Note: Dependents of active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces may be excused for up to seven days per school year per state statute.

Too Sick for School?

The Oregon Department of Education provides guidance on when students should not attend school based on specific symptoms. Visit this webpage to review guidance and determine if your student is too sick to go to school and when your student may return to school based on the symptoms. 

Schools do not exclude students for COVID-19 positive tests. Schools only exclude students based on their symptoms (refer to Symptom-Based Exclusion Chart).
