In times of loss, change, and difficulty, it is important to recognize that your thoughts and feelings are valid, and everyone copes differently. People often feel sad, angry, confused, exhausted, or feel nothing at all. Those reactions are normal, and it is okay to seek support from family, friends, or counseling services. Remember, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, as it may be hard to do. Adults seeking behavioral health services can reach our main One Community Health clinic at 541-386-6380 to schedule an appointment.

Crisis services are always available by calling 541-296-5452 for consultation or mobile response. If you are concerned about either yourself or a loved one's safety or mental health, please call 24 hours a day/7 days a week for support.

The youth line is free and confidential. Please call 877-968-8491 or text 'teen2teen' to 839863. Teens are available to help daily from 4pm to 10pm. (Adults are available by phone at all other times.) The Next Door’s mental health services are specialized to the needs of young people ages 2-26. Using a variety of interventions, such as Behavior Skills Training, we hope to empower our clients to recognize their strengths and overcome their challenges. One focus area is grief. One Community Health is committed to providing all patients with the support they need to ensure a healthier lifestyle. Behavioral health is an important part of overall health and well-being. It focuses on the relationship between an individual’s behavior and mental health, and how they interact to affect physical and emotional health. Behavioral health is an essential part of many healthcare plans and can provide a range of services for individuals. 988 provides 24/7, confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or mental health-related distress. By calling or texting 988, you will connect to mental health professionals.

A free 24-hour crisis, support, and helpline for youth. YouthLine is a teen-to-teen youth crisis and support service. Teen help 4-10pm daily.

SafeOregon is a statewide tip line for students and other members of the public to anonymously and confidentially report information concerning threats or potential threats to student safety. 

Students are encouraged to share with a trusted adult any information that is concerning them.  “See something, say something” is a critical and proven part of preventing incidents of school violence. Please encourage your students to speak up if they see something distressing. Students can report their concerns to a school administrator or school counselor. Additionally, students can report their concerns electronically via the SafeOregon tip line. To submit an anonymous tip or incident report, use one of the three following methods:

Swindells Resource Center supports parents and caregivers of children who have special health, behavioral or developmental needs. It provides video resources, information, and education to communities throughout Oregon and southwest Washington.

Mid-Columbia Center for Living is the designated behavioral health agency for Hood River, Sherman, and Wasco counties. We provide services through a variety of programs funded by the State, local government, grants, and third party resources.

Mid-Columbia Children’s Council is a local non-profit organization that ensures that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have access to a high quality, early childhood education. It has been in the community for more than 50 years, preparing children for success in school and life.

OCDC is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families by providing early childhood education, care and advocacy. It delivers supportive services, enhancing and supporting the growth and success of children and their families.

School meals are free for all students for at least the next three years due to the Community Eligibility Provision program. Families will not be responsible for paying for school meals. Children are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day. To learn more, please visit this webpage.

STUDENT FREE FARE PROGRAM

Columbia Area Transit's (CAT) fixed route services include the Hood River City Route, Upper Valley, Weekend Trolley, Gorge-To-Mountain Express, Cascade Locks, Columbia Gorge Express, and The Dalles. 

Check out the schedules and routes at www.ridecatbus.org. These routes offer a wide variety of options to get students where they may need to go within Hood River County. Additionally, this pass is now accepted by 3 other transit services (The Link, Skamania County Transit, and Mt. Adam’s Transportation Service).

To learn more about the places that your student can access with the GOrge Pass and the different transit providers that accept the pass, please visit www.gorgepass.com. If your student needs help learning how to use the fixed route system, please reach out to CAT staff at 541-386-4202 for travel training assistance. In specific instances, Dial-A-Ride (DAR) door to door service may be available to your students at an additional cost. The McKinney-Vento Assistance Act, previously referenced as "Title X" and now reclassified as "Title VII-B," strengthens education support for students who find themselves and their families facing housing hardship (42 U.S.C. 11431).

Every school district in Oregon has at least one designated McKinney-Vento Liaison who provides direct assistance to families and unaccompanied youth, helping with access to education, which enables success in school. To learn more, please visit this webpage.
