Tammy Hosaka, School Counselor and Learning Coach
BA Psychology, Willamette University
BS Elementary Education, Western Oregon University
M.Ed. School Counseling, Washington State University
I have been a school counselor at Hood River Valley High School for over 10 years and formally at Trout Lake School for 8 years. I love working with teenagers and have raised two of my own. My daughter, Megumi, is a senior at the University of Washington and my daughter, Kiki, will start her freshman year at Chapman University.
I have extensive experience with the college admissions process. I can answer questions about financial aid and FAFSA and merit aid/scholarships. I work with students in our Naviance program and Oregon CIS for college and career readiness. I write letters of recommendation and support students in their goal of post-secondary training – including apprenticeships and other career opportunities.
Being a Hood River Options Academy School Counselor and Learning Coach is an exciting new position for me. I believe that students need educational options that work for them. Some students need the flexibility for advanced experiences in their area of expertise – whether it is sports or other academic pursuit. Other students need flexibility because they are struggling with personal issues. Maybe you are a student who is ready to be enrolled full time on a college campus. Whatever it may be, I look forward to supporting you towards your goal of a high school diploma and more.
