The Gorge Fab Bus opens doors for young students from all backgrounds throughout Hood River County who otherwise would not have access to curriculum in computer programming and robotics.
With start-up grant funding from the Oregon-based Mills-Davis Foundation, the Hood River County School District has transformed an old yellow school bus into the “HRCSD Gorge Fab Bus” - a mobile, hi-tech learning space where students from across the Gorge will experiment with science, technology, engineering, mathematics and creative design. Hood River Valley High School engineering teacher Jeff Blackman has led the transformation effort along with a dedicated number of engineering students. The target of rolling out the HRCSD Gorge Fab Bus in the 2018-19 school year was kicked off this summer with the infusion of the bus in the school district’s summer school programs. The goal for this year is to roll the Gorge Fab Bus - with its robots, laser and vinyl cutters, and 3d printers - to all HRCSD elementary schools.
