This will be my 19th year working at the Hood River County School District and my 2nd year at the Hood River Options Academy. I made the choice to teach at the HROA because I was drawn to the idea of helping individual students reach their personal goals.
Prior to working at HROA, I worked at Wyeast Middle School as a Special Education, English as a Second Language, and English Language Arts teacher. Before that, I had a career in outdoor education and adventure including being a professional ski patroller, raft guide, and owning a small outdoor adventure guiding company. I brought those skills and experiences to my teaching by setting up field trips to kayak, SUP, mountain bike, and cross country ski.
This year I have the opportunity to integrate my background in outdoor education with my teaching. Be on the lookout for opportunities to go kayaking, rock climbing, and skiing. Ms. Lyon and I will be offering students in grades 3-12 these enrichment opportunities and we we look forward to seeing you there!
When I'm not out kiting, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or hiking I'm usually found kicking back with my cat and a good book. My best accomplishment has been raising a certified bookworm and outdoor adventurer: my lovely daughter Victoria who graduated from HRVHS in 2016 and OSU in 2020.
I'm looking forward to supporting you and your learning goals, so please be in touch so we can set up a time to Google Meet together.
