03-14-13 - District Selects New Superintendent
Dan Goldman The Hood River County School Board concluded their search for a new Superintendent last evening. The Board is pleased to announce they have offered the position to Dan Goldman, current Director of Instruction and Elementary Education with the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

In a late night conversation with Board Chair, Jan Veldhuisen Virk, Dan Goldman accepted the position which will include a three year contract commencing July 1, 2013.

The School Board, working with the recruiting firm of Ray and Associates, started the process in November with a field of forty-five applicants. The Board narrowed the field through initial interviews down to the two finalists, Dr. Steven Skalka and Dan Goldman. Both candidates spent Wednesday in the District, touring buildings and meeting staff, followed by an extensive interview with the School Board that afternoon.

It has been a thorough process which included staff input, multiple interviews, and an extensive background review. The Board's selection was based on Dan Goldman's breadth of knowledge about education, experience in leading educational reform, and his enthusiasm about student achievement.

Dan Goldman was attracted to Hood River because of the quality of education the schools provide their students, the size of the district, and the opportunities found in the area. Dan and his wife Nicole, along with their two children, are excited about coming to Hood River and being part of the community.

The Board would like to thank our current Superintendent, Charlie Beck, for his three years of service to our District and for and the contributions he has made in making learning a priority for our students and school community.

    03-01-13 - Superintendent Search Update
The Hood River County School Board has been working closely with Ray and Associates, Consultant Firm, to assist them in the selection of their new Superintendent. As you may recall, our current Superintendent, Charlie Beck, resigned his position this past Fall.

The position closed February 4th with 46 applications received. A team headed by Ray and Associates consultants, Dr. Jim Shoemake and Dr. John Young, reviewed all applications and determined the top nine applicants. The Hood River Board of Directors met in Executive Session on February 20th to review the nine top applicants and after a thorough review, the Board selected four individuals to be invited for an initial interview.

Initial interviews are being scheduled for March 6th to be held in an Executive (closed) Session. Following interviews, the Board will then determine their finalists. Finalists will be invited back to the District for a district tour, meetings with various school and community groups, and a final interview. The Board will then determine its final choice for the next superintendent.

If you should have any questions about the process, please contact Kevin Noreen, Director of Human Resources or Leslie McMorran, Human Resource Specialist at (541) 387-5016.
