• Special Education (6th, 7th & 8th Grade)

The goal of the Special Education Department as mandated by the Federal Government is to provide instruction to students with a variety of handicaps in the “least restrictive environment.”  Depending on the individual student’s particular abilities, the “least restrictive environment” may vary from a total pullout program to a completely mainstreamed program in which the student attends regular classes exclusively.

The program provides each student with the opportunity to derive maximum benefit from instruction in a setting with minimum isolation from non-handicapped peers.  Instructors in the Special Education Department work closely with regular classroom teachers to accomplish this goal.

Instructional assistants are an integral part of this program. They supply additional one-on-one support in both pullout and mainstreamed classes.  The intent is to provide students with maximum skill development and classroom support.
