Winter Weather, Road Conditions, and School Delays or Closures

Each winter, we have some days when the weather affects safe travel. When road conditions are a concern, school district staff gathers information from a variety of sources to decide if it is safe to transport our students to school. OUR FIRST CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS AND STAFF. Our school buses are well-equipped for winter roads and our drivers are trained to drive in all kinds of weather. We know that it is safer for students to ride on a school bus than to drive themselves to school.

We have over 1500 bus stops in Hood River County. Parents should check the safety of their bus stop when weather is bad to be sure that students will be safe going to and from the bus stop.

Parent Choices
Road conditions do vary from place to place in the county. Some days, parents may wish to keep their students at home because of bad weather. Here are some options:

• Transport your own students to school later in the day when you feel it is safe.
• Keep your students at home for the day.

In both cases, students may make up missed assignments and parents must provide a written excuse when the student arrives at school.

Decisions to delay or close school are normally made at 5 a.m. each school day, and posted by 5:30 a.m...

Closing School Before the End of the Day
Parents must have child care arrangements when school starts late or closes early. Please be sure your child and school principal know about these arrangements. Announcements of early closing will be made through the messages shown above.

Apreciables Padres de Familia,

Cada invierno, tenemos varios días en que el clima afecta el viajar con seguridad.  Cuando las condiciones de la carretera son una preocupación, el personal del distrito escolar cuenta con una variedad de fuentes para decidir si es seguro transportar a los estudiantes a la escuela.  NUESTRA PRIMERA PREOCUPACIÓN ES LA SEGURIDAD DE LOS ESTUDIANTES Y EMPLEADOS.  Nuestros autobuses de la escuela están bien equipados para los caminos de invierno y nuestros conductores están bien entrenados para manejar en toda clase de clima.  Sabemos que es mas seguro que los estudiantes tomen el autobús como transportación en vez de conducir ellos mismos.

Cuando las clases comienzan tarde: Si decidimos comenzar las clases tarde, usted puede obtener esta  información de los siguientes lugares:

Opciones Para los Padres:  Las condiciones del clima varean de lugar en lugar en el condado.  Usted como padre de familia tiene la opción de mantener a sus hijos en casa debido al mal clima. Cuando sus hijo/a regrese a clases favor de proveer una nota escrita y mandarla con su hijo/a.
El estudiante es responsable por pedir a los maestros las asignaciones que se hayan perdido.
Sus opciones:

1. Transportar sus propios estudiantes a la escuela cuando lo crea seguro.
2. Mantenga a sus estudiantes en casa por el día.

Cuando las clases se cierran antes del Fin de Día: Los padres son responsables de tener arreglos para el cuidado de sus hijos cuando la escuela comienza tarde o cierra temprano.  Favor de asegurarse que su hijo/a y el director de la escuela este informado de estos arreglos.  Anuncios de cerrar temprano se harán por la radio y los números de teléfono que están escritos arriba.
