Our students are eager for an education that connects directly to their future careers and lives. 

• Hands-on learning: Strong interest in internships, vocational trades, and practical "life labs" like financial literacy and professional networking.
• Inclusive excellence: Students advocated for a school culture where every peer feels a deep sense of belonging and respect, seeing diversity as one of our greatest strengths.
• High expectations: There is a clear desire for a learning environment that is focused, efficient, and holds everyone to a high standard of excellence.

Our families emphasized the importance of the whole child and the value of interpersonal development.

• Intentional and age-appropriate technology: Families expressed a strong desire for a balanced approach to school-issued devices. The consensus was clear: technology should be an intentional tool for specific learning goals, not a constant presence. Parents advocate for protecting "face-to-face" time to ensure social-emotional development and peer-to-peer interaction remain the heart of the classroom experience.

• Hands-on, real-life skills: There is a high level of interest in moving learning beyond the desk. Parents want to see students developing "modern self-sufficiency"—from traditional life skills like cooking, budgeting, and home maintenance to community-based service projects and "outdoor school" experiences that foster a connection to the world around them.

• Active partners in learning: Our families want to be "in the boat" with the district. This means moving beyond standard conferences to create a true partnership in which parents have the tools and real-time information they need to support their student’s academic and emotional growth at home.

• Serving the community: Feedback highlighted a desire for students to engage in local service-learning, helping them develop a sense of agency and pride in Hood River County by contributing to the community they live in.
