HRCSD adopts Edmentum online curriculum to enhance personalized learning

The Hood River County School District (HRCSD) Board of Directors officially approved adopting Edmentum Courseware as the new online curriculum provider for the Hood River Options Academy (HROA), beginning in the 2026-27 school year. The decision was finalized during the school board meeting held on June 10, 2026.

The curriculum review process was initiated following recent cost increases associated with Acellus, the school district’s previous online curriculum provider. In response to these shifting operational costs, Hood River Options Academy leadership, along with HRCSD’s Teaching and Learning Department, launched a comprehensive evaluation to identify a quality, sustainable alternative that would maximize district resources while elevating educational standards.

A representative adoption team consisting of HROA teachers, counselors, English Language Development (ELD) educators, the district curriculum coordinator, administrators, and members of the technology team dedicated significant time to reviewing and piloting instructional materials. Candidates were strictly evaluated based on student engagement, accessibility, instructional quality, and alignment with rigorous Oregon state standards. Following this thorough evaluation, the administrative and staff team delivered a unanimous recommendation for Edmentum.

"The adoption of Edmentum aligns perfectly with our core district priorities of offering equitable, rigorous, and student-centered growth pathways," said Anne Carloss, HROA principal. "This platform ensures our diverse learners are met exactly where they are with flexible pacing, while giving our educators powerful real-time tools to intervene and support student success."

Edmentum Courseware introduces several distinct instructional advantages to HROA, including:

  • Personalized learning pathways feature mastery learning thresholds that accelerate student progress at their own pace.
  • A standards-aligned secondary curriculum utilizing active, multimodal problem-solving to maintain high academic expectations.
  • Expanded access to future-ready coursework and career technical education avenues.
  • Built-in scaffolding tools, such as advanced text-to-speech functionality and translation capabilities in 19 languages, support multilingual and neurodiverse learners.
  • An "Educator Control Center" featuring real-time analytics and customizable pacing architectures, allowing teachers to minimize administrative data analysis and maximize targeted human intervention.

The board approved the implementation with total expenditures not to exceed $55,000.00, ensuring a fiscally responsible architecture that supports long-term student achievement and restores student engagement.

Families and students enrolled in Hood River Options Academy will receive additional information regarding the transition to Edmentum and onboarding resources ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
