While April has definitely been full of colder, wet weather, these moments of sunshine and warmer weather that we are experiencing this week definitely gets us excited for what’s to come. I hope you are all enjoying your spring and what it has to offer in this beautiful place we live, the gorge. At Westside, the month of May is packed full of activities and field trips for our students, which includes kindergarten roundup, spring concerts, Game Night, and the fifth graders preparing for middle school. It is a busy month, so please pay close attention to what is being sent home with your child, reminding you of the upcoming events taking place at school.
The Family Engineering Night held this past week was our second event in two years at Westside and a really special opportunity for our students. I’d like to thank Kathryn Davis, Westside parent and science teacher at the high school, for coordinating this event again. I’d like to also recognize the Hood River Education Foundation for funding the grant that Kathryn received to purchase the materials needed to develop and implement a Family Engineering Night for each of the elementary schools in Hood River. This was a great opportunity for our students and families to be exposed to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with the hope of building student interest in these subjects.
On May 7th we will be hosting a kindergarten round-up open house, with our doors opening at 5:45 and the presentation beginning at 6:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents to learn about the upcoming school year, receive registration documents, meet our kindergarten teachers and view our kindergarten classrooms. Snacks and childcare are provided. Please pass along this information regarding our open house to prospective kindergarten parents!
Thank you for all your efforts to support your student(s) here at Westside Elementary. It is greatly appreciated!
