Today, August 19, 2021, Governor Brown issued a new directive legally requiring all K-12 school district staff, substitutes, and volunteers to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18, 2021, or six weeks following full FDA approval of one or more available vaccines, whichever date is later.
This announcement will not delay the return to school for in-person instruction this fall. HRCSD's first day of school for students is Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.
HRCSD is following all health precautions to safely open school facilities for students and staff this fall. Below are staff expectations as we begin the 2021-22 school year.
- All staff will be required to show proof of vaccination status on or before September 7, 2021.
- After Tuesday, Sept. 7, all HRCSD who are not fully vaccinated will be strongly encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 once per week until they are fully vaccinated.
- All students, staff, and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear face coverings while indoors unless they are in a room by themselves with the door closed.
Students are not required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Everyone 12 and older are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. Please refer to your family health care provider.
The priority of HRCSD remains the health of its students and staff. This vaccination requirement, along with the other health precautions, is intended to keep our Hood River County Community safe and to reliably hold school in-person, every school day, for all students, all year long.
Please stay safe and enjoy the remaining weeks of summer.
