HRCSD transportation department provides update
For the month of May, the Hood River County School District (HRCSD) transportation department highlights some of the hard work taking place.
Staff highlights: The HRCSD mechanical team work tirelessly to maintain a fleet of more than 80 vehicles, tractors, trailers, and other equipment. Ish Quintanilla and Shown Osbourn form this incredible team. Their positive attitude, “can do attitude,” and incredible knowledge keep the fleet safe and on the road to best serve the students and staff of Hood River County School District.
Safety note: As the weather continues to get warmer and the days become longer, there will likely be more bicycles and motorcycles on the road. The transportation department encourages all district and community drivers to be diligent in spotting those who travel via their bikes.
On another note, there has been an increase in bus pickup drive-bys. The drive-by definition is those individuals who choose not to stop and instead pass a bus when it has red lights flashing and a stop sign extended. Dry-bys put buses, students, and drive-by drivers at significant risk. Please remain patient and wait for the buses to load our most precious cargo.
School district Initiative: HRCSD continues to train on Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). A quick summary would define this work as identifying reasons for problematic behavior, responses and interventions that are student centered and effective, and overall decreasing the amount of time students are removed from their education over disciplinary concerns. This work is ongoing and part of the bigger district PBIS initiative.
Hiring: HRCSD is looking for daily route drivers and athletic/activity trip drivers. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Kyle Rosselle at kyle.rosselle@hoodriver.k12.or.us 541-354-5113.
